In 2011, MAG embarked on a survey to capture current arterial system operations investments, operations strategies, and the institutional activities that enable regional arterial operations in the Region. This survey identifies the systems and technologies in use on the Region’s arterial transportation system, as well as the agency strategies, and resources that support effective arterial operations.

A total of 15 responses were received for the 2011 survey, and these represent the cities and towns that have either initiated or have well-established arterial operations. For those agencies that did not respond, many do not own or operate any arterial operations and management infrastructure. It is envisioned that in future years, this number will increase as more of the smaller jurisdictions (populations < 50,000) begin to implement and operate traffic signals, cameras or detection. This website provides access to the survey results compiled as a region as well as some agency-specific results that provide insight to the unique operations in the MAG region.

Arterial operations encompass a wide range of activities. The survey that was distributed to collect this regional data was used to capture current status information on systems, functions and practices, as well as identify which agencies are participating in various operational activities and involved a number of topic areas, including the agencies listed in the table below.
